2026 Japanese Black Ink Painting One-Day Workshop in Cashel on 26th February

There is a new In-Person Japanese Black Ink Painting One-Day Workshop at the beautiful Brú Ború Cultural Centre beside the historic Rock of Cashel coming up on the 26th of February (Book Here).

Sumi-e is the Japanese word for the Art of Black Ink Painting. It is a unique art form in which the fewest possible strokes are used to capture the essence of the subject being painted using only black ink, handmade paper and a special brush.

In this Workshop for beginners, participants will be introduced to Sumi-e materials and will learn basic brushstrokes and techniques used for painting grasses, flowers, distant trees and mountains. (In follow-on Workshops, additional subjects such as Zen circles and calligraphy will be introduced, with the formal writing of the Japanese character for ‘Eternity’ using basic brush strokes).
